As those of you who were there will no doubt agree, our Bubbly Boules event was another stonking success with families and friends of all ages thoroughly enjoying the hog roast, the garden and the boules competition, which was won by Nicky and Dave Gould for the second time! Congratulations to them. The weather was kind and all in all it was a great day. We are once again very grateful to Gillian and Tara for being such wonderful hosts.
Now our attention turns to Autumn and the magnificent French Barn Dance in the Victory Hall on Saturday October 15th from 7.00pm. Live music from the Buzzniks, sit down meal and as much (or as little) dancing as you like. And all very reasonably priced at £10 for members, £15 for non-members and £25 for a family ticket. We’ll even do concessionary prices for long-time Balcombe residents or larger groups. Children are very welcome and can join in all the dances. Tickets are on sale now at Threads or you can visit our website.
Please book early as it does make our catering a nightmare if everyone leaves it to the last minute!
Talking of catering, our wonderful cooks have a tasty feast in store for you. Come along and try our coq-au-vin or vegetarian tarts. Plus there will be pudding and ice cream, and probably some cheese &helip; so you won’t go hungry!
And in case you’re wondering why on earth you would want to go to a barn dance, particularly a French one - all I want to say is that until you’ve tried it you’ll never know what fun it can be. So if you haven’t been before, give it a go. The French dances are all very easy - similar to English Barn Dances but with less emphasis on couples and with generally easier moves. They are designed for the whole village to take part in and are for all ages.
A group from Dansez Francais will show us how it’s done and join in with us so we get personal tuition as we go along. They make life much easier for us! And the wonderful Lizi Storey will guide us all the way.
Of course you can always just enjoy the food and the atmosphere with a glass of wine, or two, if you prefer. We will have our usual bar with a great selection of French wines.
P.S. there is no need to speak French - we do do everything in English.
We look forward to seeing you on Saturday 15th.
